Technique to Dream

A dream is like beloved record spinning on an old turntable. It crackles with static, yet its notes carry the weight of entire galaxies.

It dances with the wind, pulling us toward the horizon. It's the spark that ignites our passion and the whisper of possibility that dances in our hearts.

1 / Garage Hub

Once we pondered whether it was possible to master the technique of dreams, like the technique of breathing or playing the guitar. How to dream so that dreams come true? How do our childhood dreams influence us?

For the past three months, we've been asking ourselves and the creators of creative spaces from Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy these questions. Then we write music, sound, edit, argue, revise, edit again... and ta-da! We share with you the first episode of the series-research "Dream Technique."

2 / Snig na golovu (Snow on the head)

In the second episode of "Dream Technique," we talk about a restaurant that opened in Kharkiv in December 2019. For 4 months, 10 young people, all of whom are autistic or have Down syndrome, cook gourmet dishes every day. These are youngsters who may not have had as many opportunities as you do. Their dream of cooking has come true.

And the dream of the founders, Tania Kameneva and Misha Chernomorets, to create a restaurant full of sunshine, diverse people, and delicious food, seems to be coming true too.

3 / Cultura Medialna

When we arrived to shoot the third episode of "Dream Techniques" with the folks from "Cultura Medialna," we found them in the midst of renovations and moving into their Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture. And now, other organizations and projects are moving into the walls of the center, housed in an old building adorned with atlases. In Dnipro, can you imagine?

"Cultura Medialna" is a team that undertakes projects that, at first glance, seem incompatible with the environment in which they operate. Incompatible in terms of quality and level.

These guys literally create a portal to another reality right at the threshold of their home. And when it comes to cultural centers in the country, Dnipro is rarely mentioned. But we advise you to start getting used to this associative chain, and the main reason for that is in this video and in these people.

4 / Kyiv Maker Faire

The fourth episode of our "Dream Techniques" series is about the unifying power of all makers - the Maker Faire. More precisely, it's about Yura Vlasyuk and Sveta Bovkun, who have been organizing Maker Faires since 2015. And now, the guys have already organized 15 fairs in 5 cities of Ukraine - Dnipro, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv, and Kyiv.

Maker Faire is always a celebration. Everything moves, buzzes, levitates, and brings genuine childlike delight. That's how it's intended.

Yura and Sveta know about workshops almost everything. They gather people and initiatives at the fairs that create Tesla coils, motorcycles, 3D printers, concrete pots, or robots.

5 / Platform Island

We are often asked the question: "Is there something like the Garage Hub, but in Kyiv?" and we always answer: "Yes. Platforma Ostrov."

Our fifth episode of "Dream Technique" is about them. Ostrov is surrounded by walls, but not isolated. It's an amazing community, an environment where it's easy and interesting to interact and implement joint projects. The folks there have already conducted 9 cycles of educational workshops, over 70 masterclasses and lectures, 3 courses on computer graphics, 5 exhibitions, 100 film screenings, concerts, forums, and more.

6 / ReZavod

In the sixth episode of the mini-series "Dream Technique," we tell the story of the space ReZavod in Lviv.

The team from the design bureau "Hochu rayu" and the eco-startup "Zelenew" managed to transform the former plant for radio-electronic medical equipment into a space where teams can gather, work on their ideas, and create design objects both on screens and in workshops.

The guys pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and transitioned from a coworking space to the old REMA plant. After renovating it, they settled into the space.

Now they have many neighbors - carpentry and furniture manufacturing, a stone processing workshop, a photo studio... And they are always open to communication. New people are constantly joining them. Thus, a community of creative and inspiring individuals has formed around them.

7 / Woodluck

The seventh episode of "Dream Technique" is about Andriy Levitsky, the founder of the Social Workshop Woodluck. Even when he was studying at the Lviv Business School, he already knew he wanted to do social business. And he did.

10-20% of Woodluck's profits go to the "Good Neighbor" program - this is how they help families facing difficult life situations. They collaborate with the NGO BUR and the organization Senior Brother. The guys from Woodluck create designs for hostels, offices, lounges, and conduct workshops for children.

So Andriy surrounded himself not with office boredom, but with cool projects, and instead of reporting, he deals with purchasing beech, oak, ash, and pine.

8 / Promprylad

Promprylad is an innovative center in Ivano-Frankivsk. We talk about this amazing place in the 8th episode of "Dream Technique." Here, there is a large coworking space, a laboratory for designers, photographers, videographers, and musicians; there is a gallery of contemporary art, a dance and yoga school, a children's center, a research laboratory, as well as a bar and cafe.

All companies are in constant dialogue, jointly solving work-related issues, helping, and supporting each other. They are building a new culture of openness, where people exchange experiences rather than sitting closed off in their offices.

Promprylad creates a proactive environment in Ivano-Frankivsk, so a designer, architect, artist, or entrepreneur doesn't need to travel to Kyiv or abroad for their realization.

Everyone who enters Promprylad risks being charmed and staying there forever. We almost did!

9 / MetaLab

The 9th episode of "Dream Technique" once again takes us to Ivano-Frankivsk.

We all want to live in more accessible, comfortable, cultural, and environmentally friendly cities. Moreover, there are many grim post-industrial areas where new life and meanings can be breathed into. Coworking spaces, cultural centers, alternative education in place of old production lines - who said it's impossible?

MetaLab is a platform for the development of cities where we live. It's both a community of people who want to explore and improve the urban environment and a physical space for discussing urban planning issues.

10 / Little Garage

In the 10th episode of "Dream Technique," we return to where it all began, in Kharkiv and the Garage Hub.

A year ago, the Little Garage first opened its doors to welcome 5 children and their parents for woodworking and grinding. The project was conceived and launched by the residents of the Garage Hub, who realized they wanted to teach children to make unique toys. Now, workshops on making toys from plywood are held almost every Sunday, and adults without children envy them.

The project was conceived and launched by the residents of the Garage Hub, who realized they wanted to teach children to make unique toys. Toy cars, tightrope walkers, catapults, and crossbows have become entertainment not only for their creators but also for dozens of children.

11 / Urban Space 100

Can you help a social project just by eating a salad at a restaurant? Yes, if you dine at Urban Space 100. We shot the 11th episode of "Dream Technique" right there, in the restaurant in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Six years ago, 100 caring individuals invested $1000 each to open the restaurant. Entrepreneurs, students, IT specialists, and teachers came together around the idea of developing urban space.

The public restaurant Urban Space 100 is unique in that 80% of its profits are directed exclusively to the implementation of public projects. Which projects to support - are decided by those same 100 people.

12 / Cauliflower

Children are way cooler than us. In the basement premises in the old part of Kharkiv, we were enchanted by a children's playback theater, a choir, and a cardboard theater. In addition to all this, the studio offers pottery masterclasses, theatrical workshops, and children's camps during the holidays.

And when it's warm and nice outside, all activities spill out onto the street. Even before the space opened, the kids invited friends and acquaintances to rescue an old stump from a dump behind the garages and hold O'pen-air concerts around it.

Of course, the space is exactly like this thanks to the people. Alongside the children, Masha Kapusta, Sergey Belozerov, and Elena Yermishkina have fun, draw, sing, and teach them.

13 / Collective cost & Garage Gang

After every conversation with Iryna Solovey, you inevitably feel inspired and excited. Ira is a grandmaster in the world of social activism. The organization Garage Gang, which she heads, implements numerous projects annually in the fields of education, creative industries, and infrastructure.

However, one of the brightest initiatives is, of course, Spilnokosht, which we talk about in this video. It concerns everyone because here you can support projects significant to our shared space. You can also raise funds to implement your own ideas. Over time, Spilnokosht has become a powerful platform with a conscious and effective community that wants change and makes them happen.

14 / Ksi Prostir

Is it possible for a situation where an artist bursts into your exhibition opening with an axe and tries to destroy part of the exhibit? Yes. Will you be less committed to your goals or disappointed in your idea? No.

Co-founders of Ksi Prostir, Nadia Ko and Iva Nai, have been working on their space for over 5 years. It encompasses an art studio, a gallery for young artists, and a hub.

During the Construction Festival, which we talked about in the 3rd episode, this incident occurred. The girls treated the situation as another performance and continued working on their projects.

By their example, the girls inspire people around them to change and evolve, showing that without the support of government structures or financial investments, one can and should dream and implement ideas.

15 / Emmaus

The public organization Emmaus creates a friendly space for youth with disabilities, orphans, and displaced children. The scope of activities is quite broad, so we will only show a part of the projects that the organizers, Anastasiia Zolotova, Irina Salnyk, and many others are involved in.

Do you know where children with disabilities typically end up after leaving the orphanage? Straight into a nursing home, at the age of 18. There are practically no other options. Emmaus creates an alternative.

In the Adaptation Center, girls who graduated from orphanages live. Irina Larikova shared her story with us. After leaving the orphanage, she entered the Karazin University with the dream of becoming a journalist.

16 / Precious Lab

We're back from our trip to Cherkasy and we're sharing the series "Dream Technique" about Precious Lab. It's a sunny oasis of initiatives amidst the gray industrial zone.

Their neighbors are large factories producing slag blocks. In the workshop, anyone can create an item they need; here they build replicas of airplanes and cars from famous movies.

What sets them apart from other workshops is plastic recycling, from which they make Christmas toys and fasteners for backpack frisbees. In this way, the guys give a second life to already used plastic bottles and caps.

17 / PrideHub

The next episode of "Dream Technique" is about freedom. The freedom to have access to various opportunities. It's a video about support and diversity. A video about Kharkiv Pride, PrideHub, and everyone who contributes to it.

The organization Sphere has been working in the field of human rights for several years. They organized the first Pride in Kharkiv in support of the rights of LGBT+ people in Ukraine, as well as the Women's Solidarity Week, and opened a community center for LGBT+ people in Kharkiv.

18 / Warm Сity

While preparing for the interview with the hero of the 18th episode of "Dream Technique," Yuriy Filyuk, we found a story from 2018 where he mentioned his desire to attract investments to Promprylad and fully realize this project within 4-5 years. And now, on February 3rd, the plant transitioned into the ownership of Promprylad.Renovation. Let dreams come true!

We've already talked about Yuriy's projects in episodes 8 (Promprylad plant) and 11 (Urban-100 restaurant). Both of these projects actively interact with the "Warm City" platform. Thanks to this platform, projects such as the visual style of the city, the "Bike Parking" project, and the Frankivsk Half Marathon have been implemented for three consecutive years.

19 / Baggage

Baggage is a place of disillusionment. If you think you know everything about marketing and have nothing to learn, you're in for disappointment. If you believe that creativity is an innate quality, you'll be disappointed. If you think there are no cool professionals in Kharkiv, come to Baggage. It's a place that mesmerizes with the density of cool lecturers and students per square meter. Creating a school of systemic education in Kharkiv with the best teachers from the CIS is difficult, doing it for 11 years and constantly improving the quality of education is almost impossible. People come to Baggage to study from Odessa, Kiev, Lutsk, Dnipro, and even Kazakhstan.

20 / LYUK Magazine

The 20th episode of "Dream Technique" comes out at such an interesting time, where we want to summarize. In this episode, Ekaterina Pereverzeva appears, whose voice you've heard off-screen throughout the entire series. Watching and listening to the dreams of others, Katya decided to return to her own dream and revive the media portal LYUK. It's the same media and the amazing team that didn't stop working during the quarantine and continues to support us with cool articles and live broadcasts with actors, writers, and musicians.
